Tim Burton re-imagines “Alice in Wonderland”

Posted in Images, Movies by Scott Meisner on June 28, 2009

Tim Burton and the strange that he carries with him is back, this time in Alice and Wonderland.  USA Today released the first still from the film, along with the main cast.  Johnny Depp plays the Mad Hatter, Burton’s wife Helena Bonham Carter plays the Red Queen, Anne Hathaway the White Queen, and the role of Alice will be acted out by 19-year-old Australian actress Mia Wasikowska.  Other cast members include Michael Sheen as the White Rabbit, Matt Lucas as twins Tweedledee & Tweedledum, Christopher Lee as The Jabberwock, Crispin Glover as The Knave of Hearts, and Alan Rickman as The Caterpillar.  The latest reports state this as the current synopsis of the film: “Alice, 17, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years before yet doesn’t remember.”  Just by looking at the inital stills, one can clearly see that this recreation will be very trippy, colorful, and weirdly unique, no surprise from visionary director Tim Burton.  Click here for interactive images from the movie, including peeks at “the white rabbit,” “Alice,” and “The Tweedles.”  Alice in Wonderland is set to be released in Disney Digital 3-D on March 3rd, 2010.  Look after the break (click “more…”) for the released character images. Lost : The Final Season gains extra hours of life

Posted in News, Television by Scott Meisner on June 26, 2009

Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello has reported via Twitter that “ABC confirms that Lost’s sixth and final season will total 18 hours, including two-hour premiere and two-hour finale.”  Originally, the final season was supposed to have 16 hours.  However, due to the writer’s strike shortening season four, two extra hours have been added to season 6.  Everyone rejoice!  Lost : The Final Season airs in January 2010.

Michael Jackson, King of Pop (1958-2009)

Posted in Music, Review by Scott Meisner on June 26, 2009

Michael Jackson is a true icon.  He revolutionized music, dance, and soul.  He questioned the status quo and forever changed the landscape of the music industry.  His unique vocal style and choreography brought us great music, slick dance moves, and entertaining tours and music videos.  “Jackson was an unstoppable juggernaut, possessed of all the tools to dominate the charts seemingly at will: an instantly identifiable voice, eye-popping dance moves, stunning musical versatility, and loads of sheer star power.”  Thriller (1982) is the best selling album of all time, having sold between 100 and 109 million copies worldwide.  Some of my favorite MJ songs are found on Thriller.  They include Beat It, Billie Jean, and Thriller.  Although it scared the heck out of me as a youngster, the epic music video for Thriller is one that is so influencial, and I will never forget it.  I am a big fan of all genres of music, and we have MJ to thank for pushing the industry in the right direction.  People can say what they will about MJ, but let it be known than I will always remember Michael as the young star of the Jackson Five singing his ABCs, moonwalking his way to fame.

RIP Michael Jackson, King of Pop.

Henson’s Wilkins Coffee (Beware!)

Posted in Funny HAHA, Video by Scott Meisner on June 25, 2009

All the way back in 1957, Washington DC offered Jim Henson a deal to create television commercial shorts for Wilkins Coffee.  The local stations could only handle ten seconds worth of ads, so Henson was forced to work with seven seconds for the action, three seconds to show the actual product.  Henson used his muppets characters to produce the commercials.  What makes these ads so funny is the sheer violence it exudes.  There’s the cheerful Wilkins and the angry Watkins.  Wilkins simply does not want to have any Wilkins Coffee, and Watkins won’t take any of it.  The video above contains a number of the inital spots.  Look after the break (click “more…”) to see a second video with more spots.  Watch, laugh, and enjoy. Transformers: Rise of the Fallen

Posted in Hot Stuff, Movies, Review by Scott Meisner on June 24, 2009

…or Megan Fox is Smoking Hot.  Michael Bay’s Transformers 2 is a fun movie.  Fun = tons of explosions, transformers metal-on-metal action, Shia Lebeof running, lots of comedic scenes, and, of course, watching Megan Fox do her thing (look mighty fine).  The story itself is a continuation from the first Transformers film, obviously, and it involves the war between the Autobots and the Decepticons.  With humans stuck in the middle of it all, Sam Witwicky and his pal Optimus Prime are their only hope for survival.  If you go into the movie looking forward to great dialogue and Oscar-worthiness, you will be disappointed.  The trick to really enjoying this movie is twofold: go into it looking forward to having a good time andanticipating the hotness that is Ms. Fox.  If you follow this advice, you will highly enjoy Transformers 2.  Guaranteed.  Oh, and the CGI is stunning.

Seeing it in IMAX at the midnight showing also helped.  People (mostly comprised of Transformers fans) were hootin’ and hollerin’ the whole time, clapping, and whistling when you-know-who enters the scene.  Two memorable quotes from the showing: (1) “Yeah, Optimus Prime roooocks!!”  (2) [Megan Fox enters first scene] “This is the only reason why I’m here!”

Brad’s Plan

Posted in Funny HAHA, Technology, Video by Scott Meisner on June 24, 2009

Yet another hilarious “plan” going wrong in a video game.  First we had Leroy Jenkins.  Now we have Brad and his game plan gone wrong in Left 4 Dead.  His reactions are priceless (and so real, mind you).  Watch what happens when Brad decides to “just make a run for it.”
